Education and Training

Prevent Child Abuse Iowa offers several education and training opportunities across the state. The most prominent of these trainings is our annual statewide child abuse prevention conference, which we have hosted for more than 26 years. The next conference will be held April 21-22, 2008 at the Sheraton West Des Moines.

2008 Child Abuse Prevention Conference

This two-day conference is designed to meet the personal and professional needs of:

  • local child abuse prevention councils
  • Community Empowerment board members and service providers
  • FaDSS and HOPES staff
  • teachers and school administrators
  • family law attorneys
  • health care professionals
  • social workers
  • mental health professionals
  • volunteers
  • public officials
  • family violence counselors
  • child and family advocates

500 people attended the 2007 conference, “Partnering to Protect Children,” held May 7-8. To read more about the 2007 conference and to see pictures, click here.

Other training opportunities have focused on sexual abuse prevention programming, marketing and communications, non-profit board management, and fraud prevention. PCA Iowa often partners with other statewide entities, such as Community Empowerment and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children, to offer these educational opportunities with the shared goal of increasing the capacity of our respective networks to support the development of healthy kids and families in Iowa.
