PCA Iowa’s 4th Annual Pottery for Prevention Fund-raiser Is Most Successful Ever
Pottery for Prevention has grown in size, reputation, and success every year, and this year was no different. The fourth annual Pottery for Prevention, a fundraising event held on Friday, November 2 netted more than $62,000 to Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. More than 350 attendees at the event were generous with their time and their bids in the silent and live auctions. Participants enjoyed the new venue, the Scottish Rite Consistory Building in downtown Des Moines, and live music by The Funk and Blues Trio.
Pottery designed by Iowa artists, local celebrities, and others is auctioned at this unique arts event. The pottery is paired with value-added goods and services, such as gift certificates and other enhancements.
Some of the value-added items that were auctioned with this year's pottery packages included a leather Titleist golf bag signed by Iowan and Master's Golf Tournament winner, Zach Johnson and his instructor, Mike Bender, and a t-shirt signed by Iowa's own world champion gymnast Shawn Johnson, which sold for $2,000.
Prevent Child Abuse Iowa presented Jerry Foxhoven with the second annual "Champion for Children" award at Pottery for Prevention. Foxhoven is the Director of the Joan and Lyle Middleton Center for Children's Rights at the Drake University School of Law, an Associate Clinical Professor at Drake, and has worked for 30 years in child welfare. The Champion for Children award was created to honor an individual who has dedicated his or her life to protecting children. Foxhoven received a specially-created piece of pottery at the event.
In 2008, Pottery for Prevention will be on Friday, November 7 at the Scottish Rite Building.
